A confidence trick or confidence game (also known as a bunko, con, flim flam, gaffle, grift, hustle, scam, scheme, swindle or bamboozle) is an attempt to defraud a person or group by gaining their confidence. The victim is known as the mark, the trickster is called a confidence man, con man, or con artist, and any accomplices are known as shills. Confidence men exploit human characteristics such as greed and dishonesty, and have victimized individuals from all walks of life. HistoryThe first known usage of the term "confidence man" in English was in 1849; it was used by American press during the United States trial of William Thompson. Thompson chatted with strangers until he asked if they had the confidence to lend him their watches, whereupon he would walk off with the watch; he was captured when a victim recognised him on the street. Why doesn't Yahoo ban the IP address of work at home scams? Asked by Joe Joe Dancer - Sun Jun 29 23:43:43 2008 - - 2 Answers - 3 Comments A. Posters and answerers are in cahoots. I've been keeping track and it started with 'Ways 14 year old girl can make money?' Many phrases in different postings of questions/answers are the same, along with the way the amount of money is typed (1100$) The names are similar, usually having an initial and they all started Y!/A around June of this year. Oh, and the catergories are really way off. I've reported a bunch and sometimes they're gone in an instant; other times they stay or only the answerer is gone. Wait till you read my questions if they try to mess with me now! always ethical- never a chump Answered by Been There - Mon Jun 30 00:28:24 2008 How can we prevent internet work scams and can you claim money back from the relevent government? Q. I really want to be able to work from home and earn money, but most of all the places I've looked into seem like they are scams or not worth it. I m an 18 year old college student and a soon to be mom. I work about 15 hours per week for a National Medical Benefits Company. I have been with the company for only 4 months and am now making over $2000 a month! I started off making about $400 my first month, $800 my second and now I am up over $2000. With this company you do make residual income so your income increased each month! Also if I continue on as I am going at the end of the year I will be making $5000 a month. My friend Becky started 2 years before me. She is now making $95,000 a year. The best part is they have 401(k), direct deposit and a benefits package.
